Technical Challenge

Comparing packages side-by-side means normalizing inconsistent npm registry data (versions, minified/gzip size, download history) into a single comparable view that updates in real time.

Chrome Extension

A Chrome extension that helps developers debug frontend layouts by outlining HTML elements by tag, with a custom color for each element type.

The Problem

Debugging a layout, I kept needing to see how elements were nested and where each one ended. Inspecting elements one at a time in DevTools is slow, temporary CSS has to be written and removed on every page, and borders change the layout being debugged.

How I Solved It

I built a one-click popup with a switch and a color picker for each tag. It draws with the CSS outline property, so the page never shifts, and the site's code stays untouched. Reset clears everything.

Outline div, section, button, a, p, span, and img elements, or everything at once, each in its own color

Technical Challenge

Pages can hide outlines with their own !important rules, so styles are injected at the user origin, which wins the cascade. Updates run through a promise queue so fast toggling can't remove or insert stylesheets out of order.

  • Covers elements added after the page loads, which keeps it useful in single-page apps, plus same-origin iframes
  • Remembers choices per tab until the browser closes, using session storage
  • Runs only on the tab where it is opened through activeTab, with no external dependencies, network requests, or data collection
  • Built on Manifest V3 and installed manually with Load unpacked while it is not yet on the Chrome Web Store
